Every year I write a letter. That letter reviews the year I am closing out and is full of resolutions for the impending year. This year I am not going to do that. In 2009 I found out a lot about myself and perhaps the most important thing that I needed to learn.
I have spent my life relying on others. Whether it be in relationships friendships or deal relationships there has often been someone there to pick up my slack and my accountability has never been where it should be. This year I became accountable for me...and only me. You see someone smarter than me told me this "In the path of life find someone like normal as you." At first it didn't make sense except then one day I am folding t shirts at job and looking at the crazy people working round me and I laughed.
I have been so wretched in years past trying to fit in. Trying to find that perfect love to complete me and I gave up. I gave up my faith in everything. I went to Dallas this summer and had people I trust basically slap me in the face and it was sitting in the motel at 2 in the morning on my way back to Denver having a terror offensive that I realized that I had hit rock bottom. I came home and went back to work and walked away from everything drama related. I found myself realizing that I am at home at work. With my crazy coworkers who make me laugh on a everyday foundation and who are so completely different from each other I realized that my coworkers are my "normal". I am just as crazy as they are and we dance and sing at each other using props and tell stupid jokes and share book recommendations and it is in this that I found my normalcy.
2009 was my year of achievements. I joined the work force. I dedicated my time to my charities. I took the first major trip away from my child. I rocked out to some of my favorite bands. I made myself financially stable and independent from anyone. I learned a new sport. I made new friends and reconciled with old friends. But most importantly I loved unlike any other.
2010 is what you make of it. Remember that love comes and is shared in the most unlikeliest of places. I wish you none but a year of achievements and a year that is full of unconditional love. I may not say it all the time but my love is always with all of you. Happy New Year.
